Hitachi, Oracle to reinforce storage tie-up

TOKYO, Feb 13, 2003 (Kyodo via COMTEX) -- Hitachi Ltd. and U.S. software company Oracle Corp. said Thursday they have agreed to reinforce their cooperation in the field of storage solutions. The agreement, which also involves their subsidiaries Hitachi Data Systems Corp. and Oracle Corp. Japan, is aimed at meeting growing global demand for databases by combining Hitachi's large-capacity data storage system with Oracle database software such as Oracle9i, the four companies said in a joint statement. The agreement calls for the four to strengthen cooperation in the fields of technology, customer support and sales and marketing.For example, the partners will begin global sales later this month of newly developed software that enables users to readily confirm that an Oracle data file is in a Hitachi storage system. When a customer's system develops any trouble, the four companies will jointly deal with it. The agreement also calls for the partners to jointly market combination Hitachi-Oracle systems in China and elsewhere.
